(More customer reviews)Instead of searching the internet for more up to date recommendations on local eateries and shopping and wondering if the recommendations are accurate, this book is an excellent alternative! Half the books contains one page restaurant reviews, half contains one page shopping reviews; all of the destinations are local favorites. The reviews are cute and funny...usually one paragraph. The different editions of this book have different sets of reviews, so older books will contain different names of restaurants and shops. The preface said they did not repeat places in more up to date editions, but you can look online to get the comprehensive lists of all of the places they have recommended.
The book doesn't otherwise give much information about travel in Portland, but it would be an excellent addition to a general guidebook, like Fodor's or Frommers.
