(More customer reviews)The editorial description does not begin to give the true coverage this book deserves. This book represents over six years of a wonderful culinary arts training program for homeless and low-income people. It presents results of a successful collaboration between Union Mission, Inc. and Savannah Technical College's Culinary Arts Program. It is the heart and soul of people who have been given a another chance at a productive life.
To quote from the forward "If the recipes weren't enough, this cookbook also provides us with the opportunity to celebrate some of our successes that go far beyond food. You will meet some of the graduates and learn of their incredible journeys through despair to triumph as they left proverty for careers creating culinary delights in kitchens throughout Savannah (and the U.S.) While the food is good and the cookbook is fun, this is the real reason for the Starfish Cafe. We sincerely appreciate your support as we change lives, one culinary creation at a time."
All the recipes in the cookbook were developed by the students or some of their instructors or some have been handed down to them. By the way, if you are visiting Savannah, Georgia, the Starfish Cafe used to be one of its best kept secrets.
