Simply a great read. A real glimpse into life growing up in Greenwich Village. It would make a great screenplay.

The Caf© was in Greenwich Village, a neighborhood rich in characterization, from the Italian-American community to the new influx of artists, poets, and writers. To many, the Caf© was an oasis -- an escape from the tedium of their lives, a place to share camaraderie and to ignore the daily pressures that overwhelmed some of them. They would arrive early, this diverse set of characters, the customers, from the neighborhood kids who played their street games in front of the Caf© to the mohair-suited wise guy whose presence was a necessary force in the scheme of things. This boy's view from the window of his apartment would ultimately be the window of his life.He grows from a boy simply observing the customers and the happenings on the street to a young man partaking in the operation of the Caf© with all its humor and pathos.
