(More customer reviews)I found this a surprisingly gripping story which gives the reader lots to consider. For so long society has disapproved of pleasure and the act of seeking it. This story looks at what life could be like if the opposite were true, and we were able to self-manipulate and regulate our pleasurable experiences. Imagine feeling like buying something you can't afford, or eating something you know is not healthy, and instead of battling with your will power, you simply flick a switch and feel the euphoria of saying yes without the expensive legacy! It looks at the benefits and unintended consequences, and in itself is a fun ride. I identified with the female protagonist who works within a male dominated world, and her feelings about it, including a budding romance.
It would seem to be a great antidote to the rioting trend we are seeing. Are we ready for that? Well worth the read.

"It would have been developed anyway. Our little team just sped it up by a couple of years." On an isolated university campus in the far North, researchers develop a device that triggers instant euphoria by stimulating the brain's pleasure centers. Once it's in the wild, there will be no more need for narcotics and no way to control the spread of addiction. Their goal is to end the war on drugs. However, when the device is launched it has impacts they hadn't imagined.
